Call the Professionals When Dealing With Biohazards.

Biohazard is defined as waste contaminated with potentially infectious agents or other materials that are deemed a threat to public health or the environment.
It is important to be able to identify potential biohazardous situations to help keep you and your family safe! Below are some examples of biohazardous materials/situations.
Animal droppings/waste:
Wild (and domesticated) animals are known to carry a number of parasites, some potentially harmful to humans when their waste isn’t disposed of properly. If your pet has an accident in the house, clean up the mess with a disinfectant immediately and dispose of the waste appropriately. If a wild animal makes it’s way into your home and leaves behind it’s droppings or dies, its best to call a professional to clean up the mess. The feces and carcasses can leave behind these parasites which may cause illness to you or your family.
Blood/bodily fluids:
Accidental exposures to blood and other bodily fluids can present a wide variety of issues to you and your family. Certain body fluids can contain bloodborne pathogens that may infect humans and can spread from person to person. Be sure to use caution when cleaning up any sharp objects with blood or other fluids on them. This also includes needles, diabetes testing supplies, and any other kind of medical waste. These types of clean ups are best left to a professional to ensure proper disposal of the hazardous materials.
Drugs and paraphernalia: Drug paraphernalia like used hypodermic needles and other contaminated contraband or items can be a serious public health risk and should be removed by trained professionals. If any unidentified substance is found, it’s best to call professionals to be on the safe side.
Common household items that identify as biohazardous materials:
- motor oil
- automobile batteries
- paints and solvents
- household cleaners
- drain openers
- pesticides
- compressed gas tanks (such as propane and oxygen)
It is important to dispose of these items safely. Please refer to local state guidelines for proper disposal requirements.
